For my taste the best solution (I'm doing this for all my important
slides) is to give them away for scanning to Kodak PhotoCD. There are
big quality differences and sometimes they do not blow the slide
sufficiently and scan dust. However you can easily work on the slides
and even remove severe scratches with Adobes fabulous Photoshop 3.05.
The program is not cheap but simply a must for everybody interested
in digital imaging. Usually the best format for photographs is jpeg.
Work on the 4MByte resolution and reduce size when you're finished.
Then resharpen a little, since the size reduction usually has a
little blurring effect. Then reformat to jpeg.

Andreas
