The Sarrs. can be selfed (they are not self sterile) although slightly
different maturation of the stigma and pollen make it less than perfect.

And just as an observation (maybe due to how slow I am to transplant!), I am
always surprised when I go to transplant a seedling Sarr. by just how big the
root systems usually are. A seedling with little more than an inch of pitcher
will have four inches of roots and a kernal of a rhizome already started.
