VFT propogation

I heard it mentioned the other day that Nepenthes could be dipped in
Rootone in order to encourage root formation. Does this work on VFT's? I
have a few VFT's which are finally doing well after putting them in the
right medium and putting them in sun. I took some sideshoots off and
planted them beside the parent plant, but after over two months they are
little more than a 1/2" diam. rosette of poorly formed leaves. Is this
typical of recent cuttings, or should they be better developed. They are
in a 6" tall pot sitting in 1" of distilled water and the medium is 50/50
sand/peat.

Is there a better way to propogate VFT's? Also, how often can one take
cuttings from a given plant.

Thanks in advance.
