In Swiss garden shops peat substitutes are offered since about then years
and some supermarkets have stopped to sell real Sphagnum peat in favour of
substitutes. The slightly acid substitutes consist of specially prepared
ligneous fibers obtained from wood splitters. Some products also contain
bark trash. For usual gardening purposes the substitutes are excellent but
I never tried it for CPs.
