I should have probably pointed out that the heating stips are
installed under the bottom of the tank, as you mention. You cannot put
them in the water. I doubt that bubbling air through the water will
transfer much heat to the air because the contact time with the water
would presumably be quite short. On the other hand, bubbling air through
the water would probably help a great deal with the problem you mention
about using a submersible heater, namely that of heating all the water
evenly in a large tank. Anything that circulated the water including a
small water pump (like a small aquarium power head) or even bubbling air
would help accomplish this.
