Just though while everyone is bragging about how big they (VFT) are, I
thought I'd get in on the action. I've got two 6" pots that are about 5"
deep, each with 3 or 4 flytraps. The traps on these plants in the spring
and summer easily average 1 1/4, I can't claim 2", but maybe next year.
However, they neat thing about these plants is that the petiole is only
about an inch or two max, all year!! Unlke the typical errect growth of
the summer leaves on VFT's these remain short all year round. The only
difference between the spring and summer leaves is that the spring leaves
tend to be wide and flat, the summer leaves tend to be narrow.
Someone mentioned about growing them down below the top of the pot. I'm
sure that adds to the size. I have plants that are clones (proped by leaf
cutting) that grow side by side, and you know, one is planted in a pot
where the medium is about an inch or so below the lip of the pot. The
other is planted at lip level, infact slightly elevated as the medium is
slightly mounded. The plant in the recessed medium consistantly produced
large traps, now I know why!!! :-) Thanks
BTW a Venus Mother-in-Law Trap sounds like a noteworthy project. Call me
when you have one!! ;-)
