2iP is a hormone (used, incidentally, in the Murashige and Skoog
medias).

It's full name is:

6-(y,y,dimethylally-amino)-purine.

It is a cytokinin, and is more powerful than either Kinetin (K) or
6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), the other 2 most popular cytokinins used for
microprop work.

As a side note, it is used in "Stage II" of the TC process
(multiplication) in conjunction with a low auxin content, to promote
shoots, and make the explants multiply rapidly. Auxins, when used in
conjunction with a low cytokinin content, are used in "Stage III"
(rooting) to promote roots.

Hope this helps,

Toby
