I found some additional chromosome numbers of your favorite genus (all
figures are the diploid 2n numbers):
D. roseana (in Jan's key D. paleacea subsp. roseana): (6)! This is the
lowest chromosome number known in the genus Drosera (the lowest plant
chromosome numbers on the whole are 2n=4, known from Haplopappus gracilis
and Brachycome lineariloba). Ref: Kondo K, Sheikh SA ans Hoshi Y.
Chromosome Information Service No. 57: 3-4 (1994):
D. dichrosepala: (12). Ref: Sheik SA, Kondo K and Hoshi Y. Cytologia 60:
43-47 (1995)
D. barbigera (10)
D. echinoblasta (20)
D. falconeri (12)
D. helodes (18)
D. leioblasta (10)
D. paleacea (10)
D. swellae (18)
D. walyunga (16)
Ref: Sheik SA and Kondo K. American Journal of Botany 82(10): 1278-1286 (1995)
To Jan (hi!): I think due to the difference of D. roseana (6) and D.
paleacea (10) the first named is not to be considered as a subspecies of
the second named taxon, particularly as they even have no common basic
number.
