My name is Phillip Cook, and I am researching in the Physical and Theoretical
Chemistry Laboratory at Oxford University, England (College: Magdalen).
I've been interested in Carnivorous Plants for about three years now, ever
since a friend of mine, whose cousin was a collector, gave me some Unknown
Sarracenia seeds, which, in my ignorance I threw after about a month, when
they failed to germinate (In my defence, I did get the growing medium right!).
I then spent about two years perfecting my technique (I found out very quickly
that Venus Fly Traps do not like read w ine being poured on them at student
parties!!) on simple plants like D.Capensis and D.Muscipula, and this year
I've started to assimilate a fully functional collection.
My grow list will hopefully increase immensely tomorrow,as I'm meeting a
friend who has many plants to give away, but at the moment I grow:
D.Muscipula
P.Agnata
P.Grandiflora
D.Capensis(alba)
D.Capensis(Narrow)
D.Alicae
D.Spathulata
D.Hamiltonii
S.Purpurea Venosa
S. x Mitchelliana
S. X Catesbaei
S.Psittacina
S.Minor
D.Californica
Sorry, thats in no particular order, apart from the order they are on my
windowsill!
My principle interests in joining this group are:
(1) Can someone please tell me how to join the English CPS. I've written
to a man called Chris Wheeler, but no reply. Help! I'm desperate to join.
(2) To extend my collection by performing a few nifty swaps (at this early
stage I'd prefer to keep things within GB, so as not to step on any of
C.I.T.E.S. feet! However, as I get more confident, then onward to the
rest of the world!)
(3) To get to know people (and information). I'm particularly interest in
knowing if there are any British homepages on the Web (I've already found
Peter Cole's) - again purely because I want to trade without contravening
any C.I.T.E.S. agrements.
Anyway, I look forward to hopefully being an active member of the group. Feel
free to E-Mail me independently pac@physchem.ox.ac.uk.
