What does "fairly peaty" look like?

The soil I saw in Malaysia had a rich texture on the surface, but at
a depth of Nepenthes roots the soil was a slimy, yellowish-white podsoil.

Can we get comments from our subscribers in "Nepenthes heaven" (Singapore,
Malaysia, etc.)?
