I'm from Germany and I work on my PhD at the university of
Frankfurt/Main. The subjects are the interactions between ants
and Nepenthes, especially on the relations of Nepenthes
bicalcarata and Camponotus schmitzii (perhaps you know the works
of Charles Clarke), and as counterpart Nepenthes mirabilis which
seems to be feeding mainly on ants. At present I am working on
cultivated plants of the genus in the "Palmengarten", a public
botanical garden in Frankfurt. I study the anatomy of the
extrafloral and floral nectaries and the composition of their
secretions.
I hope I will soon go for my second time to the malaysian part
of Borneo to examine the ant part of this strange relationships.
I have already found interesting contributions in the archives
of the CP-mailing list and I'm looking forward for future
discussions.
Some questions I have now:
Does anybody know literatur on:
- nectary types in Nepenthes
- nectar compositions in Nepenthes
- ants and Nepenthes
greetings from Frankfurt, Germany
