Beerwah is situated about 40 miles north of Brisbane, just in from the
coast. It has a very sandy, quartzy soil, which is criss crossed by
numerous small streams and swamps, and is covered by open eucalypt
forest. It is presided over by several extinct volcano plugs, (the
Glasshouse Mountains), the largest of which, Tibrogargan, looks very
much like the upper half of King Kong, several hundred feet high.
