Another source for _small_ volumes of clean water (close enough
to rainwater for most of us) is to set a volume of water either in the
'fridge or outside to freeze. Before all of it is frozen (about half to
3/4 frozen), remove the resulting block of ice. Discard the remaining
water. Melt the block of ice, which will be close enough to distilled or
RO water for a few months.
It's pretty energy-intensive, and I don't suggest it for long
periods of time unless you have the time to do it, but it does work pretty
well. :-)
