The recent discussions about D. x hybrida
has me recalling something that Jan Schlauer
said about not assuming that all Drosera hybrids
are sterile.
Does anyone, through genetic expertise or cultivation
experience, know which of the common N. American
temperate hybrids are fertile?
D. x beleziana
D. intermedia x capillaris
D. intermedia x brevifolia
D. x hybrida
D. x obovata
Should I expect D. filiformis filiformis x
D. filiformis tracyi) to be sterile? or fertile ....
And on a semi-related note, spent the day with an experienced
grower/collector last weekend who used terms I had
not been previously familiar with. He called the above D. fili
hybrid D. x californica, as opposed to the one more familiar
to me (D. x "California Sunset"). Is there a preference?
He also referred to the Southern variety of D. filiformis as
D. Tracyi (conferring on it I assume, separate species, as
opposed to sub-species status). Has there been any
literature to support this assertion? Jan?
