I agree with your summation on princaple, I too thought being
under Pine trees that the S. Minors would be acidit. The ones I put
vinegar in water around the roots no longer exist. The Venus are doing
good with Baking Soda in the water around the roots. The Sundews are
turning red in the shade of the day. It is something that trial and error
is teaching me. Even my noncanivorous Bird of Paradise likes it.
