Subject: P.pumila pollination

          Dear Oliver,

>To propagate these 2 species, the best way on my opinion
>will be by seed.

This is the best means in my opinion also.

By now others have told you that P,lusitanica sets seeds
with no intervention. You can if you prefer cross pollinate
with a tiny paint brush should you have 2 flowers open at
          the same time.

P.pumila can be a real pain. I use a paint brush and try to
cross pollinate wherever possible. I have obtained seed by
selfing but on occasions I am unable to generate seed no
matter what I do including cross pollination. It is
important you try to get seed as the plants are short lived
often expiring after flowering. Seed germination is
haphazard some times occurring rapidly, other times taking
several months. Even if the seed does germinated only a
proportion of the seedlings will develop into vigorous
plants. It is however a very pretty little butterwort and
worth that extra effort to keep it in your collection.

          Hope this is of help.

          Regards

          Loyd
