Yes it would work. I think you could enhance the method by cooling the lid
(with water on top of it?) And/Or tilt the lid to make the collected
condensate flow to one side where it could be collected in some sort of
container. Probably the best result would be obtained if you constructed a
special sun-powered distiller. Not to complicated though! Construction-time
is also money!
