Subject: Drosera Rotundifolia seeds!

Well, my d. rotundifolia produced a bounty of seeds! Didn't get a count
but eight flowers produced a ton of seeds- the seeds are long spindles
with a dark center. I decided to prepare them for stratification
immediately (after drying). Instead of the usual methods, I've
sprinkled them on top of medium and enclosed them in a tupperware box.
Then I placed them in a ziploc bag and put the entire package in my
refrigerator. (which is kept in the mid forties) Typical strat-time for
this species is 3-6 months... I'll probably pull them out in late
January and start them up in the Klima-gro.

My d. intermedia flowers should be ready for seed harvest in a month or
so. On the other hand, my d. capillaris seem to be producing little
seed. (And I thought these would be giving me a tremendous quantity of
seeds! Oh, well...)

My d. adelae continue to attempt a take-over of the entire Klima-gro.
As I've said before, this plant seems to propagate via root plantlets
much more readily then by setting seed. (None of the hundreds of adelae
blooms I had produced seeds!) For this reason, adelae have been emerging
all over the place. (So much for a planned garden...) Last week, I
brutally yanked (as in roots snapping!) 5 plantlets from the medium and
transferred 3 to dixie cups and two to an outside planter. The outside
plants were mangled by an irate squirrel (@#$% little bug-eyed beast!)
but are still hanging on. Two of the inside plants are going to be used
in a baking soda formula test, which I intend to begin shortly- one will
be a control and the other will be doused with the formula. (As
described countless times on this list) The remaining plant may also be
used as a backup test. All three indoor plants are thriving. This
week, new plantlets have already emerged in the spots where I pulled the
other plants! Pretty wild, huh?

Cheers,
Paul
