Subject: N. x boissiensis 'rubra'

Hello everyone,

I'd like to share some observations about N. x boissiensis 'rubra'.
Perhaps others who grow this plant might comment on what I've noticed.

It's no secret that this particular hybrid doesn't pitcher
prolifically. In fact, I've noticed that the _only_ time
it pitchers is when it sends up a new basal shoot. The nice
thing about the (rare) pitchers, though, is that they seem
to last a long, long time.

Looking into the hybrid's parentage, I see that there is
N. ampullaria in it. N. ampullaria also has the characteristics
that the vast majority of pitchers are from basal growth. And
these pitchers last a long, long time.

So, here I am letting my N. boissiensis 'rubra' grow long vines
with no pitchers. I guess I should be pruning it back like
crazy, close to the base of the vine, to promote basal growth
(and the accompanying pitchers).

Has anyone else seen this in the hybrid?

Regards,

Perry Malouf
