Hello fellow Nepenthes growers,
I'm posting this as a result of an interesting exchange
with Jeff Shafer.
Jeff, and some others, have noticed that a sprawling
Nepenthes vine is more prone to developing upper pitchers
if it has a support for curling its tendrils on. Such
a twig or railing would help the plant support the weight
of an upper pitcher.
It might even be said that Nepenthes upper growth may not
develop many upper pitchers at all unless it does have some
support to cling to.
Has anyone noticed this with their plants? Or how about
in the wild?
Regards,
Perry Malouf
