Subject: Re-Introduction

Hi Everyone--

My name is Gary and about a year ago, I had to stop subscribing to this
newsgroup because I graduated from college and lost my e-mail privileges.
 Luckily, I now have free e-mail through work and lots of down time when I
can digest the CP Digest.

I'm growing the following species: S. rubra (typical); S. purpurea venosa;
S. flava (coppertop? I'm not sure, seems to be a compact form--about 12"
tall at most with a completely copper hood and throat that looks shockingly
blood red when backlit); N. sanguinea (from TC--equivalent to 3 year old
plant); D. dichotoma (giant type); huge colonies of D. capensis, D.
rotundifolia; D. binata multifida; D. filiformis filiformis; D. intermedia;
and a pot of VFTs (which began as 3 plants and has multiplied into a colony
of 2 dozen or so clones--does anyone have handy tips on how to divide CP
without sending them into shock, and eventual death? I ask because last
year I was also growing a very healthy C. follicularis--until I decided to
divide the spreading clump. Instant death. BTW, I'm looking for a
replacement. Any suggestions? Also, last summer, I saw the giant form of
C. follicularis--man, was it butt ugly. I want one. Are they commercially
available?

Also, a while back, there was a thread regarding yellow jackets and
Sarracenia. Last summer, I had the opportunity to observe YJs feeding on my
S. rubra and sliding in like a hand into a glove. There was no way for them
to back out because the throat was too narrow. This occurred primarily in
the morning hours. As soon as the heat of day set in, the yellow jackets
seemed to turn carnivorous, attacking spiders in their webs. I witnessed
one YJ feigning being trapped in one web to trick the spider out. Once the
spider came out to claim its meal, it soon became a meal. I guess turnabout
is fair play! Anyway, I look forward to reading future digests.

Cheers,
Gary
