For the last three month I have been using a sytemic fungicide with
the active ingredient 200 g/L Phosphorous (PHOSPHONIC) ACID present as the
mono-di POTASSIUM PHOSPHITE. I have typed all that out because I have no
doubt that the brand name 'Fosject 200' is one of many that the product goes
under.
A white fuzz among the sphagnum disapeared after one application at
5 ml/L with no apparent effect on the moss. A similar, though more dense
fuzz on the surface of peat based mixes has proved more resistant. There are
still pockets of fungus in some pots & evidence of some resurgence between
applications. A few Nepenthes that were already wilting apparently from a
root rot did eventually die but there have been no new cases. Several plants
from this forgotten corner have since been repotted & show healthly new root
growth.
I pass on my own experience & draw no conclusions or make any
recomendations. I am not aware of any adverse effects on any flora or fauna
( my greenhouse frog population is showing strong growth ). The label tells
me that among other things it is recomended for "root & collar rot in
ornamentals, phytophthora in clover & downy mildew in grape", so it would
seem that here in Australia at least we are legal to use it on our cp's.
I have since organised for more light in the area & reduced watering
& I am confident that disaster has been averted without Benlate this time.
