Subject: Back in the UK, Bruces Drosera seeds

          Dear All,

I have finally returned across the English channel and will
now be spending more time in the UK. My mail box has been
swamped with mail whilst I have been away and some messages
were automatically deleted before I had a chance to read
them. If anyone has sent me E-mails which I have not already
responded to please re send them, I should now have time to
          answer them.

A while back Bruce Salmon kindly sent me seed of the NZ
Drosera, D.arcturi and stenopetala. I had a chance to sow
the seed on compost but I also placed some of it to soak in
water as I have tried previously with temperate Pinguicula
seed. For the past two weeks the D.arcturi seed have started
to germinate but so far only the stuff soaking in the pot of
water. I have found this spring that I get faster
germination from Pinguicula seed using the water float
method as opposed to planting on compost, so it is possible
that the D.arcturi seed on compost will also germinate.
Still no sign from the D.stenopetala but I havn't given up
          hope yet.

Regarding things that dig up plants, every year I have
problems when the young black birds leave their nests. They
always get into the green houses, drink water from the trays
and pull small plants out of pots hoping to uncover grubs or
worms. Strangely it is only the juvenile birds that do this
as I have no problem with the parents. Last night I got home
to find they had raided the greenhouse where I keep most of
my Utricularia. Amongst other damage they had completely dug
up my U.cornuta and resupinata plants, if anyone in Europe
can help me replace these I would be very grateful.

          Regards

          Loyd
