There is always a risk in trading plants over the internet. I have been
let down by people on this list 3 or 4 times, and I have let down a
similar number of people - apologies! I think that is part and parcel
of an amateur hobby, and I believe nobody has lost out financially as a
result. However when large sums of money change hands I think that is a
different matter. Rare and desirable plants are not going to be cheap,
so beginners seeing adverts for desirable plants without having any idea
of the vendors credentials will sometimes get stung. I realise there
may be legal dangers in endorsing or vilifying nurseries or individuals,
but I would like to see some form of feedback for newbies via this list.
As a suggestion, how about a database of nurseries and plant-trading
individuals to which subscribers to this list may submit one entry per
nursery from their registered e-mail address saying whether they would
use that nursery again in future, with only the totals being presented
to browsers eg Niceguys Carnivores: yes - 2519 no - 0
Ripoffs Shysters: yes - 1 no - 5
(well they would endorse themselves, wouldn't they!)
I would like to compile a list of organisations maintaining national
plant collection schemes for every country for my web site. I have the
details of the UK organisation, and I have partial details for 2 or 3
other countries but I would like as many as possible. Please could you
e-mail them to me if you know of any. I would like the country, full
name of the organisation and snail address as a minimum, telephone no,
e-mail address and web address would be welcome too.
Many thanks, NigelH
