Its about time that I introduce my self as I have been hiding in the shadows
for a few months now, sponging up the information. I have been growing
carnivorous plants for 21 years now. Starting off with the mandatory fly
trap and capensis, getting my hands on Adrian Slacks first book really
started the interest my collection slowly growing with more drosera and
sarracenias. My collection now mainly consists of Nepenthes with a
scattering of other genus. As I live in Goulburn (NSW, Australia) an inland
city, it can get quite cold at night so I have my Nepenthes housed in a
glass house, with a heater on thermostat. Winter nights often get down
to -3C and days comfortable around the 15C mark, with the heater going temps
in the glass house get down to 12C on the coldest nights. These temps slow
down the lowland plants but the highland plants continue to grow well. I
was particularly interested to see on J Marrabini's web page of his
experience of Nepenthes X trusmadiensis with light frost on the leaves. I
enjoy reading the information on this discussion group, particularly the
growing tips. I am also interested in corresponding with other nepenthes
growers in Australia that are interested in plant trading (mainly highland
species).
