Subject: Proper cultivation for Byblis

Any Byblis experts out there on the list?

I have germinated, after "wasting the rest", my first Byblis gigantea. Right
now it is 1.5 cm tall, potted in a gritty mixture of 80% sharp silica and
20% peat. The pot resides 5" under a set of Hagen Life Glo's ( which are of
high intensity and on a 14-hour photo period). I drip distilled water 2 cm
around the stem every two days insuring the medium is "just damp" and not
wet.

Since this tiny little plant is my first victory , a giant step for Mark
Pogany and a trivial one for mankind, I'd like to keep it from damping off
and set it on its way to adulthood. I've noticed with the aid of a low
powered magnifying lens that the plant has shed its seedcoat, split into two
tiny leaves at the crown (resembling a "Y"), and is currently producing its
third leaf in the middle. How long should I wait to transfer it to outdoor
conditions? Can I increase the soil moisture any? What conditions does a
happy B. gigantea enjoy? I've read there are several forms of this species.
Do they get different treatments? I'm all questions right now!!!

Good growing,
