When I was younger, in Elementary School and Middle School, I remember
reading about some carnivorous plants. I was curious about them.
My mom found some VFT's at a retail store and bought one for my brother and
one for myself. We were too young, we didn't have experience with plants,
both of the VFT's died. I didn't give up on the idea of growing plants.
I gained experince with other plants. Now, I take away my mom's plants if
she doesn't care for them. I don't like unwell plants.
Today, I have succulents, cacti, common houseplants, and Euphorbias.
Also, I have six D. muscipulas. I had 13, but I treated all my plants
(including the VFT's) with Disulfoton (systemic insecticide granules). That
insecticide appears to dystroy the roots of D. muscipula. Now, the 'greens'
are okay, but the roots are gone. The remaining six plants look like they
will recover. I've learned of better insecticides for c. p.'s, after that
experience. All of my plants needed to be treated and I didn't want the
pests seeking shelter on the D. muscipulas.
This summer I planted outside some Oxalis (imitation shamrocks), a sweet-
potato vine, and a pineapple bromelaid. I don't know if they will survive
the winter, or not.
For the past couple weeks I've been trying to get more succulents and
carnivorous plants. Aquatic, Saprophytic, and Parasitic plants are
interesting too. I've been thinking about them.
