To all,
Just a brief note to say that I will be out of e-mail contact for at
least a month and a half. I have finally finished my master course here
in Japan and am returning to Brazil. I've had an amazing two and a half
years here in Japan, an experience I will truly treasure.
Other than making friends from all over the world (a good excuse to
travel in the future!) I've made several great friends among the
members of the Insectivorous Plant Society, who have helped me
throughout my stay, always inviting me to their meetings to give talks
on Brazilian CPs, taking me to several CP habitats in Japan, and also
giving me unique insights into Japanese society and culture, which I
wouldn't have experienced if not for their kindness. Thanks tons for all
the attention to Takai-san, Shibata-san, Sodekawa-san, Komiya-san, and
all!! Hopefully they'll come visit me in Brazil some day.
Although I leave Japan this Saturday, I will only arrive in Brazil in
mid November as I intend to travel around a bit, as usual. I'll be
spending nearly a month going all around India, visiting temples,
temples, and more temples, and maybe briefly hopping into Nepal to see
the Himalayas and wander around Kathmandu (to see even more temples).
Then I'll spend a few days exploring and shopping in Hong Kong and
Macao, before heading back home.
If I can get a visa on time, I'll stop in L.A. for a few days for more
shopping and to visit my CP friends (Hi to Ivan, Ed, Leo and all!). In
fact not all of the trip will be touristy as my first stop in India will
be Goa, to visit the local CP specialist, my friend Janarthanam (Hi
Jana!). Hopefully I'll still catch a few of the beautiful local Utrics
in flower. In Hong Kong I'll be meeting Charles Clarke (Hi Charles!) and
will hopefully go on a hike to see the odd D.spatulata-like
D.oblanceolata.
Anyways, just wanted to ask everyone to PLEASE not send me mails until
I get back to Brazil, especially large files with pictures. I will
probably not have a chance to check mail while travelling around and my
e-mail quota is very small. If the quota is exceeded, they begin erasing
files randomly.
I'll be taking a few months off in Brazil and will be working on
articles for CP newsletters, preparing to publish a few new Brazilian
Drosera species, travelling around Brazil in search of more CPs, and
just resting, curing my homesickness. A big thank you to all who
contributed plant specimens for my project here in Japan. Hopefully the
DNA data obtained will be published soon. There's some really
interesting stuff!!
Best Wishes to all and 'til mid-November,
Fernando Rivadavia
