My VFT looks okay. The petiole is unharmed. The developing trap looks normal.
While misting the plant today, I wondered if the t. sauce was still on the
petiole. It was wet, so I touched it with my finger, then licked myfinger. I
didn't taste anything. Maybe, the t. sauce was absorbed by the plant, washed
away by misting, or dessicated by the strong sun-light. Anyway, I didn't taste
anything.
The sauce didn't last very long. That may not be a problem, cats learn and
remember what tastes bad and what tastes good, very quickly. My cats often eat
grasshopers, but they don't bother stinkbugs and box-elder bugs. A few days
ago a large insect resembling a box-elder bug flew over and landed next to the
cat food dish. Naturally, a kitten noticed it and tried to eat it. Soon after
she started crunching it in her mouth she dropped it and started coughing and
sneezing. Plus her eyes were watery. The bug probablly secreted a noxious
chemical that strongly discouraged her from eating it.
I didn't encourage her to eat it. She is okay.
