Regarding extermination of fungus gnats, it's not necessary to resort to
chemical warfare. The adults flying around in the greenhouse /
terrarium are best killed with domestic fly-spray, but the larvae and
eggs can be controlled by drowning. Just immerse the entire pot in a
bucket of water overnight. Repeat the process a week later and this is
usually quite effective. It works for houseplants too. Letting the
medium dry out more between waterings will probably help some.
