Hi all,
went out to the Pine Barrens (New Jersey) yesterday to see what was up and
interesting. The S. purpureas were in full bloom in several localities.
Unfortunately some of the spots I had found them in previous years were now
devioid of any pitcher plants. The D. rotundifolias and D. filiformis were
everywhere that I cared to look for them. One of the D. filiformis had a
large (about 1.5 inch wingspan) captured in the center of the plant. All of
the leaves were involved with the moth. I found a large currently nonblooming
bladderwort that might have been U. purpurea.
As a side note I also discovered a colony of leaf cutter ants cutting leaves
off of a plum tree.
