Paul,
Sounds like it could be aphids. The plant deforms at the point on the pitcher where the aphids attack and stays stunted. Mine Sarracenia got attacked hard this spring. I squished a bunch by hand and ignored the rest; the probably eventually went away on its own. Obviously, you could take a more proactive approach.
