Hi everyone--
My N. sanguinea (green variety) secretes a blood colored nectar from its
peristome. It's not evenly secreted, so there are streaks of it and
where it doesn't cover, the peristome is yellowish underneath. I've
dabbed it off on my finger and sure enough, the color comes off the
peristome with the nectar. Is this why its species epithet is
"sanguinea"?
