Hi Folks:

Regarding pitcher plants and fire ants we have observed that S. minor
does indeed capture large numbers of this insect. What is particularly
interesting, and worth investigating, is a comparison of native ant
captures vs. fire ant captures. Since fire ants are new to this region
they have not coevolved with the Sarracenia and may be captured at
higher rates than other ant species. This is an excellent project for a
high school in south Georgia or a masters level project.
