   This is actually a common thing for temperate pings to do when
exposed to warm summers. They go into a semi-dormancy stage to cope
with the heat. As long as the plant is kept moist and placed in
a cooler location, it should come back in the fall for a brief
growing period, before going into a hard dormancy for the winter.

   Peter D'Amato wrote an article in CPN (I think) discussing this
issue. If he doesn't respond to you here, I'll look it up and let
you know what it says.
