Subject: RHS Flower Show Tatton Park

Dear List.

I spent the last weekend up in the north west of England that gave me
the opportunity to visit the Royal Horticultural Society flower show at
Tatton Park near Manchester.

Two of the UK CP specialist nurseries were exhibiting there, J.Ainsworth
and Hampshire Carnivorous plants. Both of these nurseries had been
awarded Gold medals for their displays which is not bad going
considering the overall competition from other specialist nurseries and
societies.

John Ainsworth's stand consisted mainly of Sarracenia with Drosera and
VFT's though there was also a patch of diminutive P.lusitanica probably
overlooked by many casual observers. A large branch of wood also
featured which was covered in non CP Bromeliads. Although the display
included 2 small ponds these appeared to devoid of aquatic CP such as
Aldrovandra or Utricularia which seemed a bit of a shame. Hampshires
stand was somewhat smaller but none the less impressive. Sarracenia
again forming the backbone of the stand but with several other CPs well
represented. A couple of large Nepenthes were attracting attention and
admiration from members of the public as I chatted to Matthew Soper (the
proprietor).

The UKCP society was not represented at this show with the main focus
being the Chelsea show earlier in the year. The Tatton Park show was
still a sizable event and well situated in terms of the major population
centres of the midlands and the north of England. This show would thus
be well worth supporting by the UK society in future years particularly
if active members from Northern England could help this happen.

Cheers

Loyd
