Subject: Squirrels

Anybody have any suggestions for keeping tree rats out of my pots?
I'm hoping to avoid wire & screen as I find them aesthetically
objectionable, but I realize they may be the only alternatives & the
ineffectual forest of rose branches & toothpicks in my pots now is
not exactly what I was looking for either.
