I agree with Joe on this... halogen lamps emit a great deal of heat and as
a fish keeper myself, I would place my bets on the spectrum being incorrect
to promote proper plant growth.

I have a 40 gallon long "critter keeper" (like an aquarium, but it won't
hold water...made more for herps and things) that I grow my Nepenthes in.
I've only been growing CP's for a little over two years, and I couldn't
believe how fast my Neps outgrew the tank. I'm in the process of deciding
what would be the best way to house these monsters (esp. my N.
bicalcurata... that monster is STILL growing Steven ;) )

To light my tank, I use 2 two-bulb fluorescent light strips. Power
compacts would also be a good choice for a small tank. They don't generate
as much heat as say, metal halides or halogen bulbs, but power compacts are
significantly more intense than a standard fluorescent tube. They can be a
little pricey, though.
