Barry,
re your incertainty about _Nepenthes_ variability.
If you have experienced variation in Lentibulariaceae, just multiply this
by ten and you will arrive at Nepenthaceae. Indeed, Indumentum (as
useful as this may be in _Drosera_ or _Genlisea_) is a ridiculous
character to separate species in _Nepenthes_, but this is the only
"reliable" difference between _N.hirsuta_ and _N.leptochila_! Moreover,
_N.leptochila_ was described after juvenile plants without
inflorescences, only.
You see, I just don't believe in _N.leptochila_ as a distinct species after
having seen all of the accessible (i.e. accessible for me) original material
in various herbaria.
If _N.leptochila_ is poorly represented in herbaria, _N.neglecta_ is even
worse. But at least this one sheet figured in Nature Malaysiana bears
flowers! Again, I can't find a difference between this and _N.hirsuta_.

Interestingly, one sheet in the original (type!) material of _N.hirsuta_
has extraordinarily large, ovoid pitchers reminescent of N.macrovulgaris
(?!).

re various people's problems with squirrels:
I didn't encounter these in my in vitro cultures, yet.
But at times, other "hairy tailed" species (rather some !"$$%&/()* fungi)
are making trouble 8-) !
For them, I have my (chemical) colt handy.

Kind regards and keep them *zoa controlled!
