Rosanna and Phil:

Keep us informed on the results of your Thailand trips, especially if
you see any CP. The trip sounds thrilling!

Thinking about that capsaicin (sp?) based bug spray, I think Michael is
right---you'll just have to experiment. Its effectiveness even depends on
the details of application. For example, I swear by the topical use of
isopropyl alcohol on _Sarracenia_ for aphids and mealy bugs. I even
dribble a bit into the growth crown to combat tenacious infestations. But
when Michael used just a bit of isopropyl, I recall he damaged his
plants very badly. Don Schnell swears by pyrethrin, while when I use it
I get damage to _Sarracenia_ and I recently killed three interesting
_Drosera_ with it.

>Pitcher di(or rather poly-)morphism is known in scientific circles for a long
>time in _Nepenthes_. At least Danser tries to describe the different types
>of pitchers on rosettes, short shoots, and long shoots for each species. So
>this finding is not new and not Jebb's original invention. Most (or all?)

I was a little surprised that Jebb contended that pitcher polymorphism
was not addressed much in the literature---such was certainly the impression
I got from his paper. I have never taken a look at Danser's monograph, although
I gather it is the best thing around for _Nepenthes_.

I verified the ID on my flowering _G.repens_ from Auyan-Tepui last night.
A small plant but one that is vigorous in cultivation.
