Another nice thing about a hypertext approach would be that you could provide
readers with several images of the plant (close up of pitcher/trap, seedling,
plant in flower, plant in cultivation, plant in native habitat). The reader
could select from these using a thumbnail image of the photograph as the
selection point. I guess ultimately I am not that interested in working on
just a regular book (I wouldn't be able to contribute much), but something with
a bit more life to it. Imagine if we reproduced the narratives of various list
members' expeditions into the wild in search of plants and were able to scan
some of the adventurers pictures and make them part of the story, and make
links from the more formal family, genus, species, portion of the "book" to
these stories.
Anyways, whatever it evolves into, I'll be glad to help with scanning, or
whatever I can contribute as a more "junior" member of the list. Whatever
results will be invaluable to all of us, just like this list.
Oh, if you want to see my www thing and you have the necessary client and
Internet connectivity, point your client at http://borg.lib.vt.edu/cp/cp.html
I'll probably remove the files in a week or so, so look now if you are
interested. James.
