Hi,

I have been on the CP list for a while. Although I didn't have a CP, I
find the discussion here very interesting and informative. I am living
in Hong Kong. Here we have some native CPs. For example, we have one
Nepenthes species - Nepenthes mirabilis on which I found a Ph.D. thesis
in the library. After skimming through the pages, I felt sad to find
out that the locality where the species is most abundant, Chep Lap Kok
island, where 200+ plants was found growing on a single slope back in
84, is now at the heart of the new airport project. The local
indigenous flora and fauna (some rare tree frogs) have been completely
wiped out. All in the name of progress! Sigh!

I wish I had read the thesis a few years earlier, then I would have
been able to "rescue" at least a few plants.

In the thesis, it is said that some mosquitos lay their eggs in the
pitchers of Nepenthes and the pitchers have their associated fauna
and flora. I have never dreamed of any creature that can survive
in these pitchers.
