Massaging and kneading is the approved method
unfortunately :-). I do this myself. You
could try spraying down the top surface with
a water sprayer, but it's not worth the time
and mess. When I massage and knead however,
I use heavy rubber kitchen gloves, and I fold
the wet stuff on the bottom around and over
to dry stuff on top. This makes it a little
faster.
