Well, actually, many of those plants were for real (except - thank God- the
"Venezuelan Creeping Nettle). Devil's club is a beautiful plant that 
people do use in landscaping here, though well away from any path where 
someone could hit it.  It is not poisonous, just has lots of spines that 
come off very easily.  It is in the ginseng family and looks like a 
*huge* ginseng with 2-foot wide leaves and the usual little cluster of 
red berries on the top.
