Nepenthes ampullaria has no real upper pitchers. Instead little
rosettes (short shoots) sprout from the vine which bear many pitchers.
So actually the long shoot does not need pitchers. However the vine
gets very long (I've seen some 10 meters and longer) before they
start flowering.
