Colchicine prevents microtubule formation so that after the DNA has
replicated anaphase and telophase never happen. Plants become more
robust, bigger flowers, fruit, etc. Every reaction that happens within
the plant now has about twice the enzymes
to catalyze it. Polyploidy is what made wheat worth cultivating, it was
once a puny little grass. Check out some of the bio or bot labs at Texas
A&M, there's probably one that deals with colchicine experiments.
