Bog Installation

Greetings all,
This year, I decided to install a bog in my back yard. The hole is dug, the
peat and sand mixed...I have a book...
I would like to know of your sucesses and/or failures in this and details as
to how deep you made it and what kind of companion plants you have used.
To the Cymerii, please remember that I live in a Mediterranian climate. It
dosn't rain from April to November. Although I would have prefered staying
in San Francisco where it is cold and damp most of the year, I live up in the
Valley. It has it's good points and it's bad points.
My tap water has a pH of 8-8.5. Calcerious so I am told. Would all that
peat bring the pH down, or is it best just not to use it. I have collected
60+ gallons of rainwater but I am sure that will not last me thru the dry
spell.
Um, that's all for now. Would really like to hear from other bog builders.
