S. Flava pitchers not fully opening

Here's another question, this on behalf of a non-internetted friend.

What is the cause of, and the cure for, bright, strong healthy new pitchers
of S. Flava opening as per normal except for a "pinching" of the lip from
either sides of it's diameter? If manually pulled open, the pitcher is
under tension to spring back to it's pinched position. Three pitchers have
been in this condition since opening 3 weeks ago.
