Redwoods don't require cooler, they require water. The only reason that
Redwoods peter out below Santa Cruz is because it dosn't get enough rain and
no summer fog to supplement. The northern edge is because it just gets too
cold.

The other thing I can't understand is why anyone would take a mythilogical
contenent seriously. In the first place there was no California! You guys
are looking for far too simplistic an answer to these questions. North
America was not connected to South America until 10,000 years ago...within
the occupancy of man!
Look, there's enough real stuff to talk about with out conjecturing with
myths, let's get back to it.
