Re: where to purchase heating cables?

Many if not most of the garden supply/seed mail order companies have them,
and I have bought them from Charlie's greenhouse supply in Washington
(standard disclaimers). I don't have the catalogue in front of me, but
they have an 800 number. Lately I've been using the heated
mini-greenhouses ($26.95 each) available from many suppliers, including
Charlie's. This year so far I've used the mini-greenhouses to germinate
seeds from many annuals, garden vegetables, "rainforest houseplants"
(Nature Company), and cactus, and to root Nepenthes. Humidity is easily
controlled, and they keep the temperature at 70-75F. Only drawbacks are
that there are warmer spots here and there in the base, and the
size--they might not be large enough for all projects, but for those you
can use the heating cables or mats. Price may also be a drawback, but
the ability to regulate humidity offsets that for me.
